Stick Lie Finder
LIE DETECTOR
Your stick lie determines how the blade sits on the ice. Enter your measurements and we'll calculate the right lie, stick length, and trim for your game.
MEASUREMENTS
Skates add roughly 2–3 inches. If you're 5'11" barefoot, you're about 6'1" in skates.
0 = wingspan equals height. Positive = longer reach. Negative = shorter reach.
Moderate knee bend, chest slightly forward. A safe starting point for most players.
Heel wear = lie too high or stick too short. Toe wear = lie too low or stick too long.
YOUR FIT
Stick length
60" heel to butt
Target 59"–61". Forwards often prefer slightly shorter sticks for quick hands and tight puck control.
Recommended lie
5.5 lie
Medium — the most common range, suits most players.
Trim guidance
0" minimal
Minimal or no trimming needed from a standard 60" senior stick.
How we got there
- Base lie — 5'8"–5'11"5.5
- Posture — Balanced0
- Position — Forward0
- Blade wear — Center0
- Ape index (0 cm)0
- Calculated lie5.5
- Recommended lie (snapped)→ 5.5
Your lie is dialed in at 5.5.
Moderate knee bend, chest slightly forward. A safe starting point for most players. With center blade wear, your current setup is well-matched to your posture and height.
METHODOLOGY & SOURCES
Base lie is mapped from your height in skates — taller players hold the stick more vertically, so they need a higher lie. We then adjust by posture (±0.5), position, blade wear, and ape index, and snap the result to the nearest 0.5 lie (4.0–7.0).
Stick length follows the chin-to-nose rule in skates; trim is the difference between a standard 60" senior stick and your ideal length. Cutting shorter also raises the effective lie by about +0.5 per inch.
Blade wear is the real-world check: heel wear means go lower (or longer), toe wear means go higher (or shorter). Center wear is the goal.
